The workshop aims to support researchers and authors to improve their knowledge and skills in writing different types of scientific articles, processing and submitting them for publication. Recent developments in information and scholarly publishing and scientometrics have shaped science communication. Skills in writing and processing scholarly information can help improve ethical standards and the quality of publications. Topics covered by the workshop: - Ethical authorship and contributorship - Functional characteristics of multidisciplinary and specialized online databases - Ethical citations and references of scholarly articles - Choosing best target journals and avoiding wasteful publications - Writing different types of scholarly articles - Post-publication article promotion

Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes)
Learning objectives: The aim of the Workshop is to improve writing skills of researchers and authors. As an outcome, it is expected that participants will improve their skills of systematic searches through databases and target best indexed journals in rheumatology.
Who should attend: Residents and early career researchers, clinical rheumatologists, PhD candidates (up to 20 participants)

Short BiographyAssociate Professor Armen Yuri Gasparyan is an author of numerous publications on research reporting and publication ethics. From 2007, he has been involved in research and lecturing at the Departments of Rheumatology and Research & Development of the Teaching Trust of the University of Birmingham, UK. His main research interests relate to cardiovascular issues in rheumatic diseases. He also consults patients with autoimmune and autoinflammatory disorders, supervises PhD dissertations, and delivers lectures in clinical rheumatology, science editing, and publication ethics.

He has arranged seminars on writing, editing & publishing in the UK, Spain, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Greece, Turkey, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Russia.

Dr Gasparyan was the Chief Editor of European Science Editing (2011-2014) and Science Communication Section Editor at the Croatian Medical Journal (2013-2014). He currently holds posts of Associate Editor at Rheumatology International (from 2013) and Section Editor at the Journal of Korean Medical Science (from 2014).

He is a member of the World Association of Medical Editors (from 2008) and an expert of the Scopus Content Selection & Advisory Board (from 2015).

Short BiographyGraduated at the School of Medicine Zagreb in 1986. After internship worked as a research fellow at the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases of the Sestre milosrdnice University Hospital in Zagreb. Completed the residency in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine in 1997 and the subspecialty exam in rheumatology in 2001.
Successfully defended the master’s thesis in 1991, followed by attaining PhD in the year 2000. Full professor at the School of Medicine in Zagreb and Osijek. According to the European Board of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (EBPRM) obtained the title of the „Fellow in the Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine“ in 2009, a trainer of the same Board in 2010. From 2005 head of the University Department for Rheumatology, Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine in Sestre milosrdnice University Clinical Centre. Under his leadership the Department became the Referral Centre for Spondyloarthritides of the Ministry of Health of Croatia and training centre of EBPRM.

Furthered his education in several foreign European institutions, finished several courses in Croatia and abroad. Published more than 130 papers among which more than 40 in the internationally peer-reviewed journals. Actively participated with around 200 works-abstracts on Croatian and international professional-scientific meetings.As author and co-author published 38 chapters in 15 books.
Experienced in editing, former editor-in-chief of the journal Fizikalna i rehabilitacijska medicina, member of the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (indexed in CC/SCIE )and Mediterranean Journal of Rheumatology, member of the Advisory Board of the journal Acta Clinica Croatica (indexed in SCIE), and current editor-in-chief of the journal Reumatizam.

Short BiographyAssociate Professor Olena Zimba, MD, PhD, Department of Internal Medicine N2, Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, Lviv, Ukraine, has been involved in clinical rheumatology research since 2005 and got her PhD degree in 2010. Since 2013, she has been undertaking post-doctoral research in the field of systemic vasculitides, osteoporosis and vitamin D deficiency.
Dr. Zimba is involved in the management of patients with autoimmune diseases, delivers lectures on the whole course of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology for English-speaking undergraduate students and rheumatologists. She is a reviewer at several indexed journal, including Rheumatology International (Springer Nature) and Rheumatology Section of the Journal of Korean Medical Science (Seoul).
She was appointed Student’s Corner Editor of the Mediterranean Journal of Rheumatology (Athens) in 2016 and joined Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases (EULAR, BMJ Group) reviewer trainees team in 2017.
